You can’t wash off pesticides:

You can wash, scrub and peel fresh fruits and vegetables to remove some of the pesticide residues. However, you will still have other contaminants and residues (such as systemic pesticides) which are absorbed into the plant it self.

Did You Know:

• More than 4.5 billion litres of pesticides aree sprayed on food and land in the UK every year.

• 75% of UK drinking water comes from groundwater which is difficult, if not impossible to cleanse if polluted.

• According to a 1998 EPA report agriculture is the biggest polluter of America’s rivers and streams, fouling more than 173,000 miles of waterways with chemicals, erosion and animal waste runoff from livestock production.

• Nitrate pollutes drinking water supplies in forty US states. In 1994, about 500,000 people in the US drank tap water that officially violated the nitrate maximum contaminant limit.

• Food poisoning in the UK more than quadrupled between 1984 and 1998 from 20,000 to almost 94,000 reported incidents.

• According to the World Health Organisation, 3,000,000 people a year suffer acute pesticide poisoning, and about 300,000 people a year die as a result of accidental pesticide poisoning, mostly in the developing world.
